Perseidsfest 2024

Join us the weekend of the Perseids Meteor Shower for our 2nd annual campout at Hickory Hills Park!  

​

Enjoy a relaxing and blissful weekend of Aya dancing, yoga, drum circle, camping, meditation, hooping, paddling, hiking, stargazing, relaxing, and more with super friendly folks.

​

Come for an hour… a day… or stay over and enjoy the whole weekend! Families definitely welcome. Bring the kiddos out for a lovely summer weekend outdoors! Activities are open for all, and also totally optional.

Friday, Aug. 9th

• Arrive anytime (we'll gather at the Group Camp area)

• 2:00 PM - Campers can register & set up tents at our group camp anytime after 2

• Enjoy the park - unplug, relax, explore, or simply hang out and unwind

• 6:30 PM - Potluck Dinner*

• 7:30 PM - Welcome drum circle with Myquawn

• 9:00 PM - Enjoy s’mores, hangout fireside, or enjoy a hike among the fireflies

• 10:00 PM - Stargazing - enjoy the beauty of the Perseids Meteor Shower

Donations appreciated

Although no registration or fee is needed to attend Perseidsfest activities, donations to help support these wonderful offerings with really friendly, passionate, and skilled instructors are encouraged, very much appreciated, and will help to keep this event sustainable year after year.

 

We have 3 ways you can donate: ​

We'll have a large group camp area available for tent camping. 

 

Please bring $13 via cash or check per tent (per night) to pay directly to the park upon setting up your tent.

 

You can begin setting up anytime after 2PM on Friday.

HIKE

Enjoy a peaceful walk along the well-marked hiking trails throughout the park.

PADDLE

The lake has been drained & is currently under construction. However, it will be lovely to play on again next summer! So although we won't be out on the lake this year, we'll be sure to bring out our canoes, kayaks, & paddleboards again next time!

PLAY

Grab a frisbee or ball, and head on over to the playground, basketball court, sand volleyball pit, archery field, or disc golf course!

EXPLORE

The park is beautiful and full of wildlife. Enjoy the bison and elk exhibit, deer, butterfly & firefly chasing, birdwatching, and more!

FAQs / Helpful info

  • Where is this event?
    Perseidsfest is held out at Hickory Hills Park, located at 3338 Hickory Hills Rd, La Porte City, IA 50651. To find us within the park, simply follow the signs to the “group camp."
  • Can we stay overnight?
    Yes! Within the group camp, we’ll have a large area available for tent camping. Please bring your own gear, as well as $13 via cash or check per tent (per night) to pay directly to the park upon setting up your tent. This can be done via the secure fee box located right in our group camp area. You can begin setting up anytime after 2PM on Friday. 
  • Will there be food?
    We’ll be having a couple of communal potluck-style meals. Please bring whatever you’d like to share, as well as your own reusable utensils, dishes, cups, etc. We’ll also have complimentary oatmeal and pancakes in the mornings. Other than that, please bring any additional nourishment/snacks/etc. to keep yourself energized throughout the day. We'll have a gas grill available on-site as well. We'll bring some burgers and hot dogs to share, plus supplies for s'mores in the evenings.
  • Will there be water to drink?
    Please bring your own water bottle to refill (or any other drinks you'd like). There is a hydrant available right at our Perseidsfest area, with potable water safe for drinking that you can use to refill your water bottle.
  • Are there toilets & showers nearby?
    Yes! There are pit toilets right at our group camp area. There are also flush toilets and (free) showers available in a nice new building located in another campground area of the park (a very short drive or bike ride away). For showers, please bring your own supplies (towels, toiletries, etc).
  • Is there a cost/fee?
    With the exception of camping (see above), the entire event is donation-based. Donations are very much appreciated, and will help to keep this event sustainable year after year. We have 3 ways to donate: 1) We'll have a donation jar on-site 2) Venmo @ayadance (located in the "business" tab) 3) Donate online at: ayadance.punchpass.com/passes/179810 Thanks so much for your support!
  • How much should I donate?
    Please feel free to donate whatever feels right to you. If you are looking for a suggested amount, perhaps consider ~$10 per class/activity you participate in. This will help us to continue to support the fantastic instructors who are coming out and sharing their passions with us.
  • Are kids welcome to come along?
    Yes! Absolutely! Kids are very much welcome to come on out and join in the fun. This is a very family-friendly event.
  • Do I need to bring any equipment for the activities?
    • For yoga, meditation, sound bath, and the final portion of Aya dancing, please bring whatever you might like under you such as a yoga mat, beach towel, sheet, or blanket (if desired). • For hooping, please feel free to bring a hoop if you have one. Breanna will also have many extras to share. • For drumming, please feel free to bring a drum if you have one. Myquawn will also have many extras to share. • For music-making time, please feel free to bring anything else you’d like to bring (guitars, ukulele’s, etc.).
  • What if I've never done any of these things before?
    Or what if I don't know any of these people? Am I still welcome? Yes! Absolutely! You are definitely invited! The more friendly humans, the merrier. If you are wanting to come on out and try some new things and meet some new people, please DO! We'd love to have you be a part of it!
  • Do I need to sign up or register?
    Nope! But please feel free to let us know you are coming by messaging me, or simply clicking that beautiful "going" button at the Facebook event page. That will help us a bit with our planning. Thanks so much!
