Happy Sunday, friend!
This week in Aya, we'll be exploring some of the many ways we can experience & sense connection as we dance.
This one's inspired by a question I sometimes find myself pondering: What is it? What is it about dancing that feels sooooooo gooooooood? There are many answers that arise, but one that often stands out for me is: dancing is connection.
Whenever you dance, even if you are all by yourself, it's never just you. It's you connecting with something outside of you: music.
It's you with the beat. You with the melody. You with the instruments. Or you with the vocals.
It's a connection.
It's a togetherness.
It's a with-ness.
You are joining, uniting, harmonizing, or blending with something beyond yourself.
It's a connection.
A relationship.
And those moments of connection --when your body & the music just click-- it feels so good!
When we dance, we don't just listen to the music...
We join it.
We unite with it.
the beat
the energy
the speed
the feeling
the vibe
We make it visible.
It feels GOOD when the vibrations of the body and the music are harmonious.
We flow with it. We let it move through us. There's a...
Unification.
Coalescence.
Resonance.
Dance is connection.
And it's so incredibly beautiful.
Then, with Aya, we have additional layers of connection we can also explore. For example, there's a connection between one's body & the music, yes. Definitely. But there is also connection between self & the present moment... Connection among different parts of oneself... Connection between self & another individual near you. Connection with the group as a whole...
Ah! It's just so lovely, and wonderful, and magical, and full. :)
Alright, friend. Sensing connection is what we'll be playing with this week in class, but beyond the dance floor we might also explore:
• What am I connecting with (or not connecting with) right now?
• What might I want to disconnect myself from, or connect with less?
• What might I want to connect with more?
As always, I can't wait to see what we discover together. Thanks so much for reading, and see you soon!
💛 Dani
