Hello friends!
Happy weekend! I've been pondering something for the last few weeks and am really excited to share it with you. It goes a little something like this...
In the self-care world, doing less is often promoted as an answer. Relax more… just chill… set boundaries… say “no”… take a bath… create space… etc.. And while that can definitely be the answer sometimes….
What if what you’re really needing is something more?
Something that you DO…
that lights you up…
that releases the tension…
that brings you great joy….
that soothes you…
that makes you feel alive…
that inspires you…
that uplifts you…
that helps you feel more connected…
I know, I know… When we’re tired, overwhelmed, or really busy, the last thing we’re often thinking about is adding more to our plate….
BUT what if doing MORE is actually the key?
One way our family has experienced this recently was with our homeschooling starting up again. We had really been enjoying our spacious summer months of relaxation and outdoor adventure. I think all three of us were a little nervous about shifting back into school mode. It felt like such a HUGE change ahead. Plus, we were planning to add even more subjects into our week this year. How would we possibly be able to do so much? Thankfully, it turns out, we’ve actually been having a blast! We’ve added more art, music, science, Spanish, and history. It’s MORE work, yes. But it’s more that lights us up and excites us. Each subject helps us connect with different parts of ourselves, so it’s actually been really fun, engaging, and energizing. It was this experience over the past couple of weeks that first had me pondering this focus of “what if what we’re really craving/needing is more?”
Is there something calling to you?
Maybe something you used to love to do?
Maybe something totally new?
Perhaps it’s time to:
• hop on that bike you haven’t ridden for years….
• pick up that paintbrush….
• dust off that instrument…
• get out your old cook books….
• swing into the gym….
• take the kayak out for a spin…
• dust off those walking/running shoes…
• pull out your knitting needles….
• join that local chorus
• pull out that old notebook and scribble down some poetry…
• register for that 5k…
• try out that class you’ve been interested in…
• sit on the floor and build something out of Legos…
• find that old sketch book…
• order a block of clay…
• find your camera and go for a walk…
• unfurl that yoga mat…
• start that online course of study you were curious about…
Thoughts? Is anything calling out to you?
Looking back, I also experienced this personally in August with the ukulele. I was excited about the idea of sitting around and singing campfire songs together at Perseidsfest, so I picked it up for the first time in a loooooong time, practiced some chords, and started looking for songs to learn. Although I never ended up playing it at Perseidsfest, by then I had played enough to remember how FUN and relaxing it was to simply sit around and play some music. I had come back around to a part of me that I didn’t even know I was missing. Now it’s not uncommon for me to pick up the ukulele and and play… It brings me so much joy and peace. I really love it, and am so glad to have picked it back up again.
How about you, friend? Is there anything you are craving more of in your life?
Could this be the week to go for it?
Whatever it may be… What if you did it just for the joy of it?
What if there’s no pressure at all?
No need to master it.
No need to monetize it.
No need to perform it for an audience.
You could do it just for you.
Just because it brings you joy or peace.
Might that be enough of a reason?
If you do add in something more this week, and you want someone to share the news with, I’m here for ya, friend. I’d absolutely LOVE to hear how it’s going and celebrate with you anytime. So, definitely keep me posted. And, of course, can’t wait to see you on the dance floor. See you soon, friends!
Cheers to more!
Always rooting for you,
💛 Dani
