Happy weekend, friends!
Thank you so much for your beautiful courage and grace as we explored harmony last week. This week for our meditation, we'll be focusing on sensing our hips.
First, we’ll embody our hips.
We’ll simply tune into and really sense our hips - our hip joints and surrounding musculature, tendons, ligaments, bones, fascia, etc. We’ll simply embody them; we'll really sense our hips and be present “in” them. We’ll do this not only as our meditation, but also to gather helpful information. How do our hips feel in this moment? Do they feel strong? Relaxed? Centered? Tight? Balanced? Free? Stuck? Light? _____? Do both hips feel the same?
Next, we’ll explore how different movements & ways of holding our hips can affect how they feel.
As we sense our hips, we’ll begin to experiment with moving our hips and/or holding our hips still as we dance. We’ll explore things like: What happens when we soften and move our hips fluidly? How about when we really engage the strength and power of our hips? How about if we engage them for more stability and balance? Altogether, we’ll experiment with many ways we can soften, free, strengthen, energize, and engage our hips.
We’ll also study the connections between our hips and the rest of our body.
Since our hips are just a part of the magnificent whole of our body, we’ll also dance and explore things such as: How does the positioning of other body parts (i.e., head, feet, etc.) affect our hips? Alternatively, how does the movement or holding of our hips affect other parts of our body (i.e., shoulders, knees, lower back)?
We’ll have time and space to nourish and care for our hips.
We’ll also explore what our hips (and body) might like more of. Since we all live in unique bodies with unique histories, what our hips need will be unique to each of us (perhaps even different between our right and left hip joints). Some of us may want to focus on cultivating more hip freedom and mobility, while others may want to focus on cultivating more hip strength and stability. We’ll simply tune into our own unique and wonderful body and explore: what might I do to help my hips feel even better?
Altogether, we'll create our future.
Our bodies are incredible. They're so very dynamic, always in the process of healing, regenerating, and adapting to the demands we place on it. In this way, what we do today is helping to nurture and create our future self. Isn't that cool? I think it's so empowering to know that we're never static, stuck, or fixed. It’s never too late to create more of whatever we desire (mobility, strength, flexibility, etc.). The key? To slowly, gently, progressively, bit-by-bit, feed our body what we want it to be able to do. So, as we spend time with our hips this week, we can even consider: what do I want my hips to be able to do in the future? What nourishment can I provide my hips to make that future come true? More fluid freedom and mobility? More strength and stability? More flexibility & spaciousness? How about during dessert? More stretching? Massage? Strengthening exercises? Stillness? Time and permission to simply relax and release?
Perhaps most importantly, we’ll celebrate our hips.
Last, but certainly not least, we’ll have some time to simply enjoy, befriend, respect, and be in awe of (and grateful for) our amazing hips. We’ll celebrate them, and - having had this focused, quality-time with them - be able to take great care of them both on and off the dance floor.
You guys, just writing this up, I'm sooooo excited for our hips this week. I can’t wait to dive in with you!
See you soon!
💛 Dani
